A Taste of Provence – Provence Bicycle Tours

Looking for a guided group tour that will allow you to relax and enjoy all the best food, riding, and sites of Provence? Want to pedal through blooming lavender and have the option of challenging yourself on some hills or take it easy on the flats? If so, you’ve found the right place.

This tour highlights the best collection of attractions the region has to offer, including the Luberon, Vaison La Romaine, Fontaine de Vaucluse, and much more. This cycling adventure also includes the option to conquer the 1,912 meter “Giant of Provence” Mont Ventoux.

There is no more romantic place in France than Provence.   Oceans of sunflowers and acres of lavender alone make it unforgettable.  The food is world renowned, and don’t forget about the wine.

We’ve been operating Provence bicycle tours for years, so come enjoy the benefits of our experience on this tour this coming summer!

Extensions and non-riders are welcome! Come earlier and stay later. And non-riders will have plenty to do on this tour with their cyclist partners!  Ask us about options at info@outfittertours.com.

Day 1:  Arrival in Avignon and Transfer to Bedoin (Sunday)
We pick you up at the train station or airport in Avignon and take you to our hotel in Bedoin.  Plan on taking the TGV from Paris or fly into the Avignon airport.  Our hotel for the next three nights is nestled in a stand of pine trees just outside the village of Bedoin – the perfect quiet location to kick back and absorb the beauty of Provence.  We will have tools and work stands for you to build up your bikes or fit you to rental bikes.  If you get in early enough we will suggest a warm-up ride for you.  Our welcome dinner is at the hotel.

Day 2:  Bedoin Warmup Loop Ride – 40km (Monday)
Today we will enjoy a gentle warmup ride through and around Bedoin. Adapt to your beautiful surroundings as we pedal to a vineyard for a tour. In the morning we will have the opportunity to visit the Bedoin morning market.  Dinner is at the hotel.

Day 3:  Vaison La Romaine – 50+km – (Tuesday)
Today our destination is the market in Vaison La Romaine, an ancient Roman town with relics dating back a thousand years.  The market there is so good that it is open every day, with today being our chance to enjoy it. If you’re looking for an opportunity to conquer Mt. Ventoux today is your day.  Dinner is again at the hotel.

Day 4:  Bedoin to Gordes – 40km (Wednesday)
This is a beautiful ride with almost all the hilly terrain tackled later in the ride. On the way you can visit Abbaye de Senanque, Venasque, and Crillion Le Brave. Our hotel for the next three nights perfectly located to explore the Luberon and other sites Provence is known for. Dinner is at the hotel.

Day 5:  L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Fontaine de Vaucluse – 45km (Thursday)
Today’s ride is a classic.  L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue market is our destination, but we’ll also be able to visit the bubbling Fontaine de Vaucluse. The massive spring is the only exit point of a subterranean basin of 1200 km2 that collects the water from Mount Ventoux, the Vaucluse mountains and from the Lure mountain.  It is s sight to behold.

Day 6:  Luberon Loop Ride – 45+km (Friday)
Today’s ride is a classic.  You are in the heart of the Luberon, made famous by Peter Mayle in his book “A Year in Provence”. Ride 45 hilly kilometers through one beautiful village after another: Roussillon, Bonnieux, Lacoste and Menerbes, to name a few.  Today is market day in Bonnieux, so we will stop for a visit and lunch. For those craving less rigor and more relaxation, daily mileage can be shortened as desired. Or for those looking for more we can extend the ride.  Our farewell dinner is at the hotel.
