Few things bring us more joy than watching the next generation discover cycling. That feeling of freedom, connection to nature, and sense of accomplishment that comes from pedaling their own bike is priceless. Even better is when that passion leads families to travel together, exploring Italy or France by bike with Outfitter Bicycle Tours.
The OBT family knows what it’s like to travel with kids, and we absolutely love it when children and teens are part of the adventure. To help you choose, we’ve gathered our top tours for families with young riders.
Things to Know Before You Go
Before we dive into the tours, there are a few considerations to keep in mind: While we admire families who travel with trailers, our tours aren’t suited for babies.
We recommend a minimum age of 13 for riders. This ensures that everyone gets the most out of the experience.
That said, we are flexible and always do our best to accommodate your needs. If your child is a strong rider or you’d like to adjust mileage, we can tailor the itinerary.
Relaxed Tuscany Bicycle Tour – 4 Nights
This is one of our shortest and most approachable tours, making it perfect for families who want a taste of Italy without committing to a full week on the road. Over 4 nights, you’ll ride through Chianti and Siena, soaking up the sunshine and culture of Tuscany.
Don’t think Tuscany is only about wine, though parents will appreciate that too. The food here will win over even the pickiest of teenage eaters. From handmade pasta to Fiorentina steak, and of course, daily gelato, meals are both kid-friendly and authentic.
The pace of the tour is relaxed, the riding distances manageable, and the reward is time spent together exploring Italy in a way few families ever experience.

Relaxed Dordogne & Vézère Bicycle Tour – 6 Nights
If your family loves history, this tour is a dream. Over six nights, you’ll explore two stunning river valleys in southwest France, cycling from one prehistoric site to the next. Think ancient cave paintings, charming villages, and riverside rides that are as educational as they are fun.
The longest ride is only about 40 kilometers (25 miles), so young riders won’t feel overwhelmed. With no major climbs, it’s a gentle introduction to European cycling, making it one of our top recommendations for families. The Dordogne is a region that sparks curiosity, making it a perfect destination for bonding and discovery.

Relaxed Provence Bicycle Tour – 5 Nights
Provence is a magical destination for families. With fields of lavender, olive groves, and stone villages bathed in golden light, it feels like something out of a storybook. This 5-night tour is designed to skip the giant climbs that make Provence famous (like Mont Ventoux) and instead focus on routes that are scenic, cultural, and family-friendly.
Teenagers love the romantic side of Provence, the lavender fields, the bustling village markets, and the endless photo opportunities. Parents love the food and wine. Together, it makes for a family vacation that feels balanced, beautiful, and memorable.
