Itinerary for our 2014 Tour de France Bike Tour:

Day 1: July 19th – Saturday – Arrive in Toulouse
We will be staying at a hotel near the airport, therefore we will be able to pick you up whenever you arrive at the Toulouse airport or train station.  Just let us know when you will be arriving and we will be there with a van or have a shuttle available for you.  We will have a get-together before dinner, get to know each other and go over the details of the tour.  Our welcome dinner is at the hotel.

Day 2: July 20th – Sunday – Bagneres-de-Luchon
In the morning we transfer immediately to Bagneres-de-Luchon, where we will spend two nights.  Once we arrive we will have tools and work stands for you to build up your bikes.  We will, of course, be there to help you too.  If you have a rental bike we will fit you to steed.  In the afternoon enjoy a warmup ride up any one of the local mountains – Superbagneres, Col du Portillon, Port de Bales, or Col de Peyresourde.  Tackle one, two, or all three of them.  They are all out and back rides.  Luchon is a bustling small town in the Pyrenees.  Take this opportunity to get out and discover.  Dinner is on your own tonight.

Day 3: July 21st – Monday – Bagneres-de-Luchon
Today the pros have a rest day, but we won’t!  You will have another chance to tackle some of the local climbs.  Dinner is included tonight.

Day 4: July 22nd – Tuesday – Bagneres-de-Luchon to Luz Saint Sauveur
Today will be a big day!  Stage 16 finishes in town, down the street from our hotel!  Watch the stage from where ever you’d like – from the mountain side on the Part de Bales or at the finish line in town!  Make sure you stay and enjoy the podium ceremony!  Since teams will be moving into our hotel for the evening we will be transferring immediately after the podium ceremony.  Fortunately we will be moving to one of our favorite villages in the Pyrenees – Luz Saint Sauveur.  Dinner is on your own before we load up to move hotels.

Day 5: July 23rd – Wednesday – Luz Saint Sauveur
Today you have two options: 1) ride over the Tourmalet and Aspin to watch Stage 17 ending on Pla d’Adet (we will transport you back), or 2) climb any one of the local climbs, including the Tourmalet and Luz Ardiden.  Dinner is included at the hotel.

Day 6: July 24th – Thursday – Luz Saint Sauveur
Stage 18 will be passing right through town! Stay close in town or ride down the valley to watch the finish on Hautacam!  If you are ambitious you can also conquer the legendary local climbs such as Col d’Aubisque and Col du Soulor.  Dinner is included at the hotel.

Day 7: July 25th – Friday – Luz Saint Sauveur to Les Eyzies (Dordogne)
Today we will be transferring to the Dordogne, which is where the TdF action will be for the next two days.  We are planning to get to Bergerac for the stage finish before then moving on to Les Eyzies for the next two nights.  Les Eyzies is in the heart of the Dordogne, and is known for its prehistory sites.  It is also known for its foie gras, beautiful chateaux, and quiet pace.  Dinner is on your own in Les Eyzies.

Day 8: July 26th – Saturday – Les Eyzies (Dordogne)
The last Time Trial!  This stage could determine the winner of the race.  We are a beautiful ride away from Perigueux, where the TT will finish.  Our farewell dinner is included, and in Les Eyzies.

Day 9: July 27th – Sunday – Paris
Today we transfer to Paris.  A morning departure will put you on the Champs Elysees in enough time to see the pros ride into town for the final stage!  Make sure you wait for the parade of teams and podium ceremony after the stage finish.  Afterwards walk past the Arc de Triomphe to our hotel.  Dinner is on your own in Paris.

Day 10: July 28th
Departure day!  Transportation to the airport is easy from our hotel.  Or stay in Paris for a few days.  Bon voyage!  We hope you enjoyed your tour with Outfitter Bicycle Tours!

What is included:

  • All hotel accommodations.
  • Luggage transfers from hotel to hotel.
  • OBT cycling jersey!
  • Meals as explained in the tour itinerary pages above.  Usually this means all breakfasts, no lunches, and some dinners.
  • Detailed route notes, maps, and tourist information.
  • Outstanding routing instructions!  We provide three different methods of routing on our tours: 1) GPS course downloads for your GPS unit, 2) traditional cue sheet, and 3) written prose describing each turn and the surrounding area. These methods are then supported by a road map. Follow the route the way you prefer, and your chances of getting lost are very small.
  • Your personal guides, helping you with support vehicles.  On road support will always be near.  From greeting guests when they arrive, to handling luggage transfers, mechanical issues, etc – our guides assist guests in every way.  They also set you up on your rental bikes, and can help with routing, and any other questions.

What is not included:

  • Transportation to and from the start and finish locations.
  • Bikes, but ask if you want to rent a bike.
  • Travel and Health Insurance.
  • Admission to site-seeing venues, unless explicitly mentioned as included.
